another iPhone case option

Hey, remember a couple days ago when I was trying to find the perfect iPhone case? That's funny, because I didn't get any suggestions. Ha!

Anyway, modish posted these lovely iPhone skins today and I am tempted. I'm not convinced it is the proper amount of protection for my phone, but how can I say no to a deer in socks? I implore you.

Thoughts?

Ugh

I've got a lot going on right now and I really need to turn my brain off and go to sleep. It might be kind of quiet around here for the next few weeks or so, we'll see how it all goes. Leave encouraging thoughts if you so desire. ;)

Is it wrong of me to say this would be a lovely gift for me and the mister?

If so, well, too late.I've gone and done it.

apple-raspberry mini galettes

I started with a little recipe from Emma over at From Scratch for Individual Apple Galettes that seemed almost frightfully easy. Flour, butter, an apple, brown sugar and cinnamon. That's pretty much all it asks for. I decided (at the suggestion of the mister) to add in some raspberries. I have to say this truly is one of the easiest recipes I have ever made. Seriously, folks, easier than a box cake mix. But I will warn you, you might need some extra sugar. I'm thinking about adding sugar into the crust for next time, but not being a scientific baker I don't really know how that will affect the turnout. But they sure are a darling little dessert. In fact, I may go have myself some seconds right now. So what if it's not even noon yet, during the holidays it's always time for dessert.

sweet

I may be a little bit biased, but I'm pretty sure dessert is the best part of thanksgiving. This year I'm trying out some mini raspberry-apple galettes, so I'll let you know how that goes. Those little pilgrim sugar cookies up there from My Paper Crane? Totally adorable. What are you baking this year? Or would you dare say there is something more important than dessert?

Happy Thanksgiving

This isn't going to be much of a post, so you'll have to forgive me. I've been terribly sick, we spent all day looking at houses and stressing about making an offer on one, and here we are a mere hours away from Thanksgiving and we haven't even gone grocery shopping yet. We don't even have a grocery list yet. Woefully unprepared. I do hope your holiday is off to a more productive start.

But I wanted to thank you for reading my little blog, and for any comments and feedback I receive I am very grateful. Thanks! :)

wish list

I was on the metro the other day and spotted a girl with a Burberry plaid iphone cover. And I loved it. And I've searched the internets for it. What I have found are various teal blue and pink plaids, and some odd diagonal plaids, and one that might look like what I want but I don't trust the seller so I've got nothin. But just for the sake of sharing, I'll show you what the internet has to offer.

There's a whole lot of this

And this

close(r) but so cigar

And then, to make matters worse, I found this iPhone3 case that got me searching the internets for grandma florals. Don't even get me started on what I found in those searches. It was not pretty. But this one below, I love it. I can't even explain why.

So what do you say? Who's got some suggestions for me? I need to prettify my phone!

playing dollhouse

House shopping has turned out to be a rather surprising experience. There are the things I know I like, the things I know are problems but something about it makes me want to defend it (even when it seems the roof might fall in on you there's something so charming about it), the ones I can't put my finger on but there's something about it that's just not doing it for me, and then the ones I figured we'd see just for the heck of it but I end up falling in love and immediately decorating it in my head as soon as we get home. Who'd have thunk it?

Here's what I'm dreaming about today.

You get where I'm going here. So unexpected. So amazing. I kind of can't wait to play real house.

It just dawned on me yesterday that Thanksgiving is next week. I am shocked and appalled. Where did the year go? I guess the positive is we usually put up the Christmas tree right after Thanksgiving, so yay! And I'm really looking forward to Old Town getting all dressed up for the holidays. It's going to be so pretty!

new glasses!

Remember just about forever ago when I said I needed new glasses? Well, I did decide to go with the fabulous Warby Parker, which was also mentioned in that post and also came highly recommended from my little sister. It took me about a week to decide on the glasses, another few weeks to get my eye exam, and about a month when I realized there was a detail that was left out of my prescription that I needed to order my glasses (the distance between my pupils, who knew?), to finally go back to the optometrist to get that done so that I could place my order online.

So I finally ordered my glasses last week and less than a week later, I have my new glasses!

They're Belen in King's Purple, and I quite like them (despite the fact that suddenly I think my head might be a bit to small for them)

And despite my being pleased with these new glasses, it does not stop me from looking at others. Like these lovely vintage frames from mod* vintage on etsy.

How fun are they?!

I want these cakes.

All of them.

But alas, they are not real.

Beautiful Styrofoam cakes are cruel, cruel trickery.

small wonders

I don't even remember how I came across this shop to begin with but I just rediscovered it in my favorites list and it didn't take long to figure out why I put it there. Little Dipper specializes in vintage goods for baby, and it just kind of blows my mind the cuteness they have compiled there. I want to hoard suitcases of these for no particular reason and keep them for many years to come. Seriously, whoever thinks it's a good idea to just get rid of stuff like this is crazy.
