Happy Friday!

I'm so excited to have the weekend off, and to have a growing to-do list with the mister!

1. farmer's market
2. Crafty Bastards (yay! yay!)
3. photo shoot with the growing pile of knits
4. decorate (and scent) the house for fall
5. hang some pictures on the walls for goodness sake

And some things I've been thinking about adding to the list:

6. thrift shopping
7. baking
8. nap
9. use our bowling deal? (since I just discovered today that the 2 movie tickets for $9 deal that I bought from LivingSocial has expired, determined to use these things to SAVE money and not WASTE money)

You and Me House

Every time I look out into the back yard and all of those trees, I can't help but think that it's just begging to have a tree house built in it. There's lots of unusable space back there right now, with years of leaves, branches, and other waste covering the ground. It will take some serious work just to clear out a path to get back there, but the desire consumes me. To be able to sit out there and read on a nice fall day, to have little picnic lunches, and, well, to dream of the day when little ones will play up there. I loved playing in my treehouse when I was a kid and kind of feel like it's a necessary part of childhood.

and I will take you back

I have heard this band described as something like a punch in the face with a fistful of candy, and you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. Mates of State, I will always take you back.
I have been listening to this album pretty much non-stop for a couple of weeks now. I mean, sure it was only released last week, but... I bought it on limited edition white vinyl when it did come out! And I cannot wait until we meet again, in concert... on my birthday no less.

Oh and I am getting so so close to my 500th post. By the looks of things it might land right around my birthday and all the stars will align to bring you a very exciting giveaway event! Stay tuned for details. ;)

Space Oddity

I've been working on another post for a couple of days but it's missing one key piece, so you'll just have to wait. But in the meantime, since I realized I haven't been very active on here recently (sorry!) here's something pretty cool.

David Bowie's Space Oddity as children's picture book. (Really cook 1960s style illustration picture book)

Check it out here. Stumbled upon here.

Also, in an effort to make this blog better, I'm going to finally treat this the way a real blog should be treated. I'm going to plan posts, make lists of ideas for future posts, DIY projects (I already have one up my sleeve that I need to finish up!), and the like. I hope it's the kick I need to get this thing moving again.

Also, I don't know if you've been paying attention but there was a mechanism to comment on my blog with facebook for a couple of days. It really wasn't what I wanted for several different reasons so I removed it. It has nothing to do with the comments that were left there, and I encourage you to comment through the blog comment system. And before you say it's too difficult to log in... you don't have to! Just type in your name, or comment anonymously if that's what you'd like. This is a public forum, a conversation, and it needs your participation to make it better. I appreciate you, my readers, and will continue to search for better ways to bring my blog to you and to bring you into my blog. ;)
Just please don't leave blog comments on my facebook wall. Whew.

knot me

Lusting over these gorgeous natural wood bracelets by Gustav Reyes. A wee bit on the pricey side but I would spend so much time admiring it on my wrist that I'm pretty sure I could forget about that.

merry little

You guys, I cannot appropriately express to you how excited I am right now. Last night I'm sitting at a red light in traffic and checking my email (what, you don't do this? It's not like I'm actually driving.) and I see some very special words flash across the screen. A Very She & Him Christmas album.

I can think of almost nothing better than this. The only negative is that the rest of my Christmas music collection might not get as much airtime this season. But, for serious, it's She & Him. It's going to be perfect.

I should stop gushing. It's out October 25. It will be mine. Christmas is coming early this year (sorry to anyone who might be forced to ride in my car during this time).

The Royals

This is kind of fantastic. One of my favorite movies of all time.

spotted on Rogix's Eyes

Side note: It has been four days and there is no sign of the rain stopping. The air is cold, the ground is wet, it's quiet and dreary and makes me want to stay in bed all day and read. Please, rain, go away.

life according to my iphone

I have been trying to work on organizing and detailing a few little spaces in my home. I realized that we are coming dangerously close to the one year mark to not have a single thing hung on the walls (wow, that's really embarrassing). It felt so amazing to get some little shelves up on the wall for my beloved toys, even though it really only skims the surface of the collection. To get anywhere close to all of my toys on display the wall would have to be floor to ceiling shelving. I think I'll just get a couple more. For now.
;)

Another tiny, simple thing that makes me happy: a small collection of lady-things on my dresser. Perfumes, tins, and jewelry dish. REALLY hoping that an intentional use of this space will discourage us from just dumping clean laundry on the dresser and leaving it there for weeks on end. Not that that ever happens. Oh no...

I have also finally started organizing my craft room, in addition to the toy display. It's been in a severe state of disarray since we moved here. For a very short period of time I was making progress getting things set up, until the untimely demise of my ikea desk. Truth be told I wasn't convinced I wanted to keep it to begin with. Aesthetically it just did not fit in with my vision for the room, but practically speaking I couldn't let it go. It had cubbies and compartments for everything, with a magnetic dry erase board to boot. My inner OCD was obsessed with the idea of this desk but it wasn't really working out. And then, well, let's just say that when someone moves a piece of furniture and needs a different tool to put it back together that was not used to take it apart... you have a problem. But it's for the best.

My next project: I have four large square frames which I acquired YEARS ago and have yet to use. If only I could figure out WHAT I want to DO with them. Ugh. It's so difficult for me you would think it was a life or death decision. It's not like I can't change it later! What is wrong with me?

Flashback... Sundays

So there's this thing I used to do when I was in high school. I used to stay up late on Sunday nights watching 120 minutes (remember when MTV played music videos?) Yeah so the good videos only played in the middle of the night so I would record them. I had the system down. If it was a video I had never seen before, a band I had never heard of, I would just hit record. If a few seconds went by and I wasn't into it, I would stop it, rewind, and record another one over it. If it was good, I kept it. Sometimes I fell asleep in the middle of recording and end up with a bunch of random stuff on the tape. Hey, it was late and anyway I have a tendency to fall asleep watching TV/movies. And for those of you familiar with my tapes and the content therein, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I'll own up to some of the randomness of those tapes, but not all of it. Ok.

I randomly came across this video tonight (BWE posted a video of Maya Rudolph (who used to be in The Rentals? How come I never knew that?) performing recently with her band Princess (?) at a That Dog show). My mind was blown. That Dog. (that dog. if you want to be all proper about it) I haven't even heard mention of them since high school. I immediately asked the mister to download some for me because I Need. It. In. My. Life.

gobsmacked

So here I am, just minding my own business, reading my feeds (ok, if we're being honest here I wasn't reading, I was skimming. I still subscribe to a bunch of wedding blogs and since I don't really need them anymore I have been slowly weeding them out, and those that are still on the list I just scan through to see if something catches my eye)... And something catches my eye. The wedding toppers I knit for our wedding. And for a brief second I think wow those look a lot like mine. And my eyes look over to the right a bit and.... it's me. My face. Staring back at me. On one of those wedding blogs that I looked to for inspiration for so long.

WHAT?
