listening party

Love this collection of images from How to be a Retronaut, and it really makes me want to go buy one of these and these and maybe go through another round of obsessive ebay record buying. It happens every now and again you know.

On a somewhat related note, I finally saw The Runaways the other day and while I won't call it one of the greatest movies of all time, I will say I was a little blown away by miss Dakota Fanning. She grew up real quick and they did an incredible job turning her into Cherie Curry. Like spot on. And it got me in the mood for a little rock & roll.

knitting again

Last night I got the urge to knit something new, the kind of urge I haven't had in MONTHS if not YEARS. So I got a little inspiration brewing and am working on a design for a new scarf. I have two designs that I have knit and reknit and knit again, and it was time for something new. Not that I don't love those scarves. I do. But I'm committed to launching an actual line of scarves on etsy this fall, so that means I have got to get moving gosh darn it!

Here's a little sneak peek which gives away absolutely nothing about the final design. I am sneaky that way. :)
There is a potential flaw in the design, but I am still so excited about it that I am pushing forward and hoping I will be able to fix it in the end.

(Oh and remember that last thing I was knitting? It didn't quite work out the way I had anticipated and it is currently functioning as a container for plastic grocery bags. Worth a shot though I guess.)

good eats

The mister and I want to start eating better food. Healthier, tastier, more interesting food. Less frozen food. That sort of thing. So I have been collecting some recipes on Pinterest just in case one of these days we move beyond wanting to eat better and start making grocery lists, cooking, and actually eating better. Well, we'll see how it goes.

Are you sensing a theme here? Pasta pasta chicken pasta chicken. Really thinking outside of the box when it comes to food, that's me. Just ask the mister. On any given night if you were to ask me where I want to go out to eat, 98% of the time you will get the same few answers. Chevy's, pizza, Noodles & Co. Sometimes if I'm feeling fancy I'll crave pad thai or bulgogi, kabob or bang bang shrimp. But I will pretty much always want Chevy's. And, just so you know, it's hard to go wrong with chicken and pasta.

instagram book

This might be kind of lame, but I REALLY want to make one of these little instagram books!

They're simple, cute, and affordable. I can't think of any reason not to make some except that it might prove very difficult to narrow down the pictures I want to put in it! In my brain I'm coming up with all kinds of different reasons to make them. Wedding books, vacation books, probably (almost certainly if I can remember a year from now) a first anniversary book.

The possibilities are endless, people!

What kind of book would YOU make?

A Birthday Weekend in photos

We started the day with a little home made breakfast. Ricotta pancakes w/ fruit, recipe from Baking Bites via CakeSpy. I was a little nervous about this recipe as there are some things I've managed to go years without learning how to do. Like separate eggs. To me that was in the same category as cracking an egg open with one hand in Things I Will Never Do. But I did it. And beat egg whites into soft peaks. I did it all. I did it so the mister could have a wonderful birthday breakfast.

There were balloons, there was pizza, there was cake. Apparently I forgot to buy the birthday hats, but there's always next time.
The cake was a raspberry lemonade poke cake that I modified slightly from Betty Crocker. The basics are the same; start with a white box cake, add lemonade concentrate, poke the cake and pour raspberry jello mixture on top, and I feel the need to mention that this recipe also required separating eggs. Figures. I just left out the part where they put the jello mix in the actual cake batter before baking, because 1) I wanted to separate the flavors a little bit more, and 2) I didn't think Chris wanted a solid pink cake. I don't know if this had any real impact on the outcome of the cake or maybe I didn't mix the batter enough, but the cake came out very dense. Tasty, but not the consistency I look for in a cake. Maybe I'll give it another try some other time. Oh, I also added some little yellow sprinkles on top with the raspberries as a nod to the raspberry-lemonade theme.

Here's how the kids spent their weekend.

Lazy, as always.

Anyway, I do hope the mister enjoyed his first birthday as a married man. I'm not sure what difference that makes, but it seemed like it should, so I tried to make it a good one. :)

friended

Ok ok. Have you been living under a rock or have you also noticed these friendship bracelets popping up everywhere lately? Well, I simply don't have the willpower to resist anymore. I'm going to have to channel my inner 12 year old and stock up on some embroidery floss, curl up on the couch with a clipboard in hand, and cover my wrists in these lovely creations.

That last one is especially tempting. Hmmm

paint chip boxes

If you're like me and you have a few (dozen) paint chips laying around the house not doing much of anything, here's a fun little project from How About Orange. Turn your paint chips into wee little boxes!

UGH

I had to stop and take a deep breath when I saw this. This is, hands down, one of the most obnoxious, rampant mis-spellings on the internet today. Why is this??

LOSE, people. LOSE. Not LOOSE.

Wedding Recap Part 3: instant gratification

Being that we're smack in the middle of Roid Week I thought it was an appropriate time to finally get around to posting the polaroids that my little sister took during the wedding! They are so cute and I'm so happy we have such a range of keepsakes and photos and they are all so special to me.

Thanks, Heather!

one month (already?!)

The mister and I celebrated one month of married life this week. Well, I kind of realized it a couple days after it happened, but we have always been bad about anniversaries. And anyway it's only a month. But wow time has flown by. And maybe we just wanted an excuse to be cute and do something nice together.

So we made homemade calzones and had yummy key lime cake for dessert. It was good times. If we make them again I think we'll have to make some adjustments (dough was too thin, cheese wasn't quite right texturally, needed more seasonings inside) but I'm happy to make calzones as many times as I need to to get them just right. They are one of my absolute favorite things to eat.

And check out those cute little prep bowls that we got as a wedding gift! Love!

Oh and I almost forgot! We watched this super adorable movie and I only slept through it a little bit. I highly recommend you check it out, it's on Netflix instant!

Next up is the dear husband's birthday, and the pressure is on!

New Shop Listings!

Just thought I would drop in and let you know that I finally added some items to my Etsy shop (which I created about a year and a half ago and have never listed anything). So far it's just a few vintage items we found around the house but I promise (for real!) to add some hand-knit items in there soon! It's not too soon to start thinking about scarves is it?

Anyway, please stop by my shop and check it out. Then come back here and give me some honest feedback. I'm posting this here because I trust you and I truly want to know what you think. Do the pictures stink? Are the descriptions lackluster? Am I missing something? This is a work in progress and I want to make it the best I possibly can so your advice is appreciated. And if you just love it and want to share it with all of your friends, you may do that as well. ;)

brainfreeze on the brain

Is it hot where you are? Could I interest you in some tasty icy summertime treats? Yes, I thought so. I would welcome some of these into my life any day. Yummm

What summer treats are you craving? Any go-to recipes (or heck, even store bought treats) you'd like to share?
