This feels a little silly

Here it is, nearly six months since my last post here. I gave myself permission to skip a few days and, well, look what happened. But things have been happening, folks! Lots of things! Good things, bad things, weird things. I will not be going over all of those things right now. I wouldn't do that to you. Let's ease back into this thing, shall we? 

I'm going to start with a fun little outing I had with the mister a little while back to Art-O-Matic, an amazing somewhat annual (I don't think one happened last year) art event that makes me happy I live in the area. Ten floors, 1,000+ artists, performers, etc. Good times, folks. Good times. We spent about four hours there and didn't even get to half of it, there was just so much to see.

It was so nice to be able to spend a little quality time with the hubs. Nice to get out and get inspired. Who knew there were pretty things to look at that aren't on Pinterest? I kid, I kid. Sort of.

hoop dreams

I don't even know what to say about what I'm about to show you. There is apparently so much talent out there that this one person can create something every single day for an entire year. And none of them suck. They are all perfectly composed using materials practically made for this purpose and oozing with charm and personality. 

Lucky Jackson has unfortunately stepped away from her Etsy shop in order to dedicate herself to the 365 day project, and thank goodness because if she could maintain them both at one time I might just throw up my hands and wonder why I even bother waking up in the morning if I can't be so inspired and productive.

I want to line a long hallway with these embroidered portraits. So Much Love.

Side note: It has been four days and there is no sign of the rain stopping. The air is cold, the ground is wet, it's quiet and dreary and makes me want to stay in bed all day and read. Please, rain, go away.

I have to say I am not a fan of this new neon colors trend. It's a bit jarring in general. And yes, I can remember the trend the first time it came around and I don't want to talk about it.

But neon colors in this painting? It works somehow. Don't you think?

Yangyang Pan

I'm a sucker for heavily textured oil paintings. Something about the layers of paint popping out from the canvas lend an energy to the piece that would otherwise not exist. The paintings above by artist Yangyang Pan fit that bill. So beautiful. I think if I had that first painting in my living room (and it turns out I would love to have that first painting in my living room) I couldn't help but to stare at it for hours.You can also purchase prints and even some original paintings from her etsy shop.

It's been gross and rainy here most of the day and these string rainbows cheered me up. Aren't they amazing?

Amazing little works by artist Diem Chau. Little creatures painstakingly carved from actual crayons, turning artistic medium upside down. (And she does commissions! What an amazingly fun gift to have a family portrait in carved crayon!)

Flawlessly flawed, thank you very much

Lusting after these fabulous watercolors from Stockholm based illustrator Stina Persson.  She makes fine tuned beauty look effortless, and oh so cool. I would say it inspires me to want to paint, but I know I can't paint like that. But I digress. Her work is currently being shown at Gallery Hanahou in NYC, but if you recall I tried to go to an event there before and they were closed without warning so I'm not sure I'm ready to take that risk again. The show is called Perfectly Flawed, but I'm not seeing any flaws here.

Skate and Destroy

Skate and Destroy is an exhibition in Tokyo featuring sculptures from Harvest by haroshi made entirely from old skateboard decks. My brother used to have huge stacks of broken boards collecting at home, and I always marveled at the waste. Who knew they could turn into something so beautiful?
